Community Video Education Trust
The Community Video Education Trust (CVET) is a community based and community development orientated. It is located in Athlone and exists to serve the previously disadvantaged communities of the greater Cape Town area.
CVET has a more than twenty years history of involvement in programmes to bring about transition towards the democratization of media access and use, and to exploit the utilization of video technology as a catalyst in social development. It was formed in 1976 as an Association of NGOs and individuals with particular interest in media development.
The core business of the CVET is to train community members in video production as well as producing commercial productions. CVET has over the years acquired its own equipment. The production output on an average per year is about 20 productions, and they have produced for the SABC, eTV and other companies.

Steps for the Future
The Steps for the Future video collection has emerged out of a collaboration of Southern African and international filmmakers, broadcasters, AIDS organisations and people living with HIV / AIDS who have united to produce high–quality, professional films. These compelling stories reveal the effect of the HIV / AIDS pandemic on the lives of individuals, families, communities and nations.
The films form part of a media–advocacy campaign which is intended to promote debate and discussion around HIV/AIDS related topics such as disclosure, discrimination, treatment and living positively. Diverse perspectives are presented through the eyes of a range of people and communities.
These unconventional stories celebrate the strength of the people who share and reflect on their experiences of HIV/AIDS. Steps for the Future not only challenges fear and stigmatisation with stories of hope, but also dismantles discrimination and ignorance by cultivating tolerance and promoting the belief that actually, life is a beautiful thing.

MANENO MENGI
This site has many downloadable articles and information about doing participatory video.
PARTICIPATORY MEDIA Development planning has been based on the written language. But most people don't write plans and reports. Instead, they participate in society through the spoken language. The purpose of Maneno Mengi is to create new development practices that offer authorship to people whose voices are otherwise not heard. Combining participatory learning with media technology we facilitate participatory production of videos, TV, radio and websites for development planning, negotiation and policy dialogue togeher with people.
MANENO MENGI was established in Zanzibar in 1998 by a group of development workers who had met at the Mtwara Media Centre in 1994-97. The directors Lars Johansson, Verena Knippel and Dominick de Waal work part-time in Tanzania as consultants, researchers and media producers. The office in Zanzibar is managed by Khamis Omar. Kassim Mustafa works from Maweni and Simanjiro as a video producer. Charlies Ng'atigwa in Shinyanga, Amina Khamis in Zanzibar, Stephane Cantine from France and Vijendra Patil from India are also attached to the group. Farida Nyamachumbe resigned as a director and left the company in January 2001.
